Subaru vehicles seem to be made for road trips. They're spacious, versatile, and long-lasting, making them a perfect choice for driving across the state or across the country. But even with legendary Subaru quality, it's best not to go on a trip without first knowing that your vehicle is ready for it. In this article, we lay out four helpful tips on getting your Subaru prepared for a long road trip.

4. Make a Road Trip Checklist
It's a good idea to start making a checklist well before you have to leave; this way, it's less likely that you'll forget something. As you think of things you need to pack or do before you go, write them down. Then, check them off as the day approaches. Whether it's the other items in this list or things like food and entertainment, make sure that you include everything you'll need in the checklist.
3. Consider How To Protect Your Vehicle's Interior
Road trips can be messy, especially if you have kids in tow. Whether it's a spilled drink, muddy shoes, or a candy wrapper thrown on the ground, the mess can quickly add up. To keep trash from accumulating on the floor of your Subaru, bring some trash bags along. While spills and mud are harder to deal with, there's a great solution: all-weather floor mats. These Subaru-approved mats are easy to clean. Consider getting a set to help keep the inside of your car neat and clean.

2. Be Ready for Anything
Being overly prepared is almost always preferable to being under-prepared. At the very minimum, your Subaru should have an emergency kit containing a first aid kit, jumper cables, and tools. Make sure you also bring appropriate supplies for whatever weather you might encounter; if you're heading to snowier climes, it's a good idea to stock chains, a shovel, and equipment to keep people warm. Before you head out, check the spare tire to make sure it hasn't gone flat, and be sure that the tire iron and jack are in your vehicle.

1. Have Your Subaru Inspected
Before you head out, one of the most important things to do is to bring your vehicle to an authorized Subaru service center for a multi-point inspection. The technicians will make sure that all the systems in your Subaru are performing as they should, and they can catch any potential problems before they become much bigger and harder to deal with. If your Subaru requires maintenance before you go on your trip, they'll let you know so you can take the appropriate steps.
