The CV axles inside your ride are incredibly important to your powertrain. If you aren't a car guru, these intricate parts might sound like gearhead jargon, but they play a key part in how your front wheels interact with your transmission. In most front- and all-wheel drive models, the CV axles are the connecting points between the front wheels and your transmission, and they are built with sophisticated joints that allow the shaft to turn at a CV or Constant Velocity as the wheels receive power from your engine and turn. Over time the rubber boot that protects this joint can become torn or perforated by debris on the road. This allows lubricant grease to leak out of the joint. When it's damaged it can also allow dirt and dust to enter the joint and cause acceleration wear and tear inside which could lead to further damage. Once the protective boot is torn you'll need a replacement soon to keep your ride functioning properly. If there's a loud clicking noise when you turn that's coming from the axle, that's a sign that the grease has completely leaked out and bare metal is grinding against bare metal. More problems can arise from this, so we recommend stopping in for a service appointment or to pick up a replacement part to handle the repair on your own.
