If you can't afford an actual race car, you can at least get the next best thing: the 2023 Subaru WRX. Designed for apex performance, put to the test in decades of National Rally Championships, and refined through every iteration, the WRX is an absolute beast of a high-performance vehicle. While every Subaru is engineered and built to have great power and handling, the WRX was made to raise the bar of All-Wheel Drive performance in the automotive industry. In addition to the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive that's standard on every Subaru, the WRX is packing the awesome Vehicle Dynamics Control with Active Torque Vectoring which gives it panther-like reflexes. And since the 2023 WRX is street-legal, it has a wealth of amenities that its Rally Car parents don't. Things like a high-tech multimedia system, a stylish interior, and… well, passenger seats. Those are important. With 26 MPG and room enough for your family and cargo, it also has a measure of daily practicality that higher-priced high-performance cars somehow don't think is vital. And speaking of practicality, 95% of Subaru WRX vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today, more than Honda Civic or Volkswagen GTI.1 Read on to learn more about the latest version of this iconic thrill-ride.

2023 Subaru WRX Exterior
The most noticeable difference between the rally cars of Subaru Motorsports and the 2023 WRX in the showroom is the absence of the sponsor logos, huge rear airfoil, and big yellow curve and stars. Barring those, the body lines of the road version are the same. Especially the wide air scoop in the middle of the hood, which has become an instantly recognizable feature among rally fans and sport driving enthusiasts alike. The 2023 WRX shows off its rally racing heritage with a sprinter's stance, and design elements like dramatically flared fenders with functional air vents, a streamlined hexagonal grille, and no-nonsense black skirting. Choose the iconic Subaru WR Blue Pearl color, or the even more unignorable Solar Orange Pearl, and you're sure to get noticed everywhere you go.

2023 Subaru WRX Interior
The sporty and comfortable interior of the newest WRX is one of only two ways in which it beats the Subaru Motorsport rally cars that spawned it. While a rally car's interior has been stripped of all the non-essentials in order to make it lighter, the interior of the domesticated road version is decked-out with leather-wrapped shifter knob and steering wheel, performance analog gauges, and heated front seats. Some trim packages include technical alloy pedal covers and Ultrasuede®-trimmed upholstery; an artificial form of suede leather with a sumptuous feel and a high friction coefficient, so it does a great job of holding you in place while you're cornering. When you're not focusing on pushing the envelope, the STARLINK® multimedia system will keep you both entertained and connected to the rest of the world. The WRX is equipped with folding rear seatbacks with a 60/40-split, to make it easy to bring along large cargo items and a third passenger at the same time.
Standard Interior Equipment
- Leather-Wrapped Flat-Bottomed Steering Wheel With Red Stitching
- Analog Speedometer, Tachometer, Coolant Temperature, and Fuel Gauges
- STARLINK® Dual 7.0-inch Multimedia System

2023 Subaru WRX Performance
The prime directive of the WRX has always been heart-pounding driving performance, and the 2023 model continues the legacy of cutting-edge technology delivering top-shelf driving thrills. The heart of the WRX is the 2.4-liter direct-injection DOHC turbocharged BOXER engine, which flexes with 271 horsepower and cranks out an amazing 258 pound-feet of torque across a broad, flat power band. To make the most of all that power, the WRX is armed with top-tier traction technology. The most agile fighter jets in the world have thrust vectoring; the WRX has Vehicle Dynamics Control with Active Torque Vectoring. It sharpens the already impressive cornering ability by actively reducing understeer. A track-tuned suspension with a rear anti-roll bar mounted directly to the chassis for increased roll control keeps each of the tires independently firmly pressed to the road.
Standard Performance Equipment
- 2.4-liter DOHC Turbocharged Engine
- Fully Synchronized 6-speed Manual Transmission
- Active Torque Vectoring
Available Performance Features
- SI-DRIVE Engine Performance Management System
- Subaru Performance Transmission With Paddle Shifters
- Variable Torque Distribution

2023 Subaru WRX Safety
This is the other of the two ways in which the production version of the WRX beats the rally cars of Subaru Motorsport. In the latter, the main active safety feature is the driver's nerves of steel and years of training and experience. Since you most likely don't have years of professional training, the mass-production version is loaded with active driver-assist features like EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, Pre-collision Braking, and Automatic Emergency Steering. Those are on top of a bevy of passive safety features like daytime running lights, whiplash-reducing front seats, a ring-shaped reinforcement frame, and an energy-absorbing collapsible steering column.
Standard Safety Equipment
- 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
- Traction Control System (TCS)
- Brake Assist
Available Safety Features
- STARLINK® Safety & Security System
- Blind-Spot Detection With Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
- Reverse Automatic Braking (RAB)
