The 2022 Subaru Legacy is the safest and most reliable sedan on the market today. Its combination of Subaru engineering, performance, and technology places it head and shoulders above the rest of its competition. But it's not enough for us to just say that- we need to prove it. So we've put the 2022 Subaru Legacy against some of its toughest competition: the 2022 Toyota Corolla. Explore this side by side comparison of the two sedans and learn exactly what makes the 2022 Legacy so special.

Exterior & Interior
It's evident at first glance just how much the 2022 Subaru Legacy outclasses its competition. The Legacy combines innovation with tradition for an overall classic design that is as sleek as it is subtle. With standard 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, Steering Responsive LED headlights, and available power tilt/sliding glass moonroof, the 2022 Subaru Legacy is a perfectly suited vehicle for cruising the streets of the Pacific Northwest.
Alternatively, the 2022 Toyota Corolla opts for a more streamlined and futuristic design. With its standard 15-Inch styled wheels, black front grille w/ sport mesh insert, and overall rounded design, it's a good looking car- but we think you'll agree that it feels a little out of touch.
The differences continue once you step inside each sedan. The 2022 Subaru Legacy is significantly larger than the 2022 Toyota Corolla with 105.5 cubic feet of passenger space and 15.1 cubic feet of trunk space- compared to the respective 88.6 and 13.1 cubic feet of the Toyota Corolla.

Technology & Convenience
The 2022 Subaru Legacy is fully equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia and convenience features. Each 2022 Subaru Legacy comes standard with a 7-Inch Touchscreen STARLINK multimedia system- with available upgrades to an 11.6-inch touchscreen and navigation software. Other available features include a Harman Kardon premium audio system, 4G LTE Wi-Fi capabilities, and Keyless Access w/ Push Button Start.
Meanwhile, the 2022 Toyota Corolla offers several similar features, but with a lower available ceiling. For example, the standard multimedia system for the 2022 Corolla also comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, but its largest upgrade is only 8-inches. To the credit of the Corolla, it does come standard with a 3-month SiriusXM trial subscription, which you'll also find standard in every Subaru Legacy.

Performance & Power
For most people, what ultimately makes or breaks a vehicle is what's found under the hood. Luckily, the 2022 Subaru Legacy more than performs in that arena. The standard engine in this year's Legacy is the 2.5-Liter BOXER Engine that generates 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. Also available is an upgraded 2.4-Liter Turbocharged BOXER engine that pumps out 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Also, like almost all Subaru vehicles, the 2022 Legacy comes with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive which makes it one of the only standard AWD sedans in this segment.
The standard engine found in the 2022 Toyota Corolla, by contrast, is a 1.8-Liter 4-Cylinder engine that produces only 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. There are upgrades for this engine, but even the highest upgrade available for the 2022 Corolla generates 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque- which is still less than the entry-level Subaru Legacy.

Safety & Driver Assistance
If there's one thing that Subaru unequivocally does better than their competition, it's safety. This trend continues in the 2022 Subaru Legacy. It was designed from the ground-up by Subaru engineers to keep every potential passenger safe. This means there is a ring-shaped reinforcement frame and 8 airbags that populate the entire cabin. It also comes with a litany of standard and available driver assistance technologies like the standard EyeSigh and High Beam Assist along with the available BlindSpot Detection and DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System. No matter what trim level you choose of the 2022 Subaru Legacy, you can rest assured that you're in the safest hands.
The 2022 Toyota Corolla is by no means an unsafe vehicle, however. Every level of the 2022 Corolla comes standard with the Toyota SafeSense package of features which includes Pre-Collision System w/ Pedestrian Detection, Automatic High Beam, Lane Departure Alert, and much more. However, there are a few distinctions to be aware of. For instance, the Toyota Corolla didn't score as well in rollover safety from the NHTSA as the Subaru Legacy did, and there's also the significant safety advantage that comes with all-wheel drive and steering-responsive headlights. When the cards are down, the Toyota Corolla just can't compete.
The Best Value for the Best Sedan
Overall, there's no real way to say that the 2022 Toyota Corolla stacks up to everything that the 2022 Subaru Legacy offers. However, it is true that the 2022 Corolla carries a lower price tag than the 2022 Legacy. The starting MSRP of the 2022 Toyota Corolla is $20,075- about $3,000 less than the $22,995 of the 2022 Subaru Legacy. With that said, the buffet of standard and available features offered by the Legacy- to say nothing of the significant discrepancy in power and performance- more than compensates for this relatively small difference in price.
